Yahoo Finance Cheat Sheet for Beginners

Yahoo Finance Cheat Sheet for Beginners

If you’re new to investing, Yahoo Finance is a free and easy tool to track stocks, ETFs, and crypto. Here’s a simple cheat sheet to get you started fast:

1. Create a Watchlist

Add tickers like:

  • AAPL (Apple)
  • SPY (S&P 500 ETF)
  • BTC-USD (Bitcoin)

2. Read the Quote Page

Each ticker shows:

  • Price & daily change
  • Market Cap, P/E, Dividend Yield
  • 52-Week High & Low

3. Use the Chart

Check trends by setting:

  • Timeframes: 1Y, 5Y, Max
  • Indicators: Moving Averages
  • Compare: Add another ticker side-by-side

4. Check Dividends

On the summary box, see Dividend & Yield. Use “Historical Data → Dividends Only” to see past payouts.

5. Create a Screener

Filter for what you want, for example:

  • Market Cap > $10B
  • Dividend Yield > 2%
  • P/E Ratio < 25

6. Track a Portfolio

Add your stocks or make a “practice” portfolio to track gains/losses over time.

7. Set Price Alerts

Click the bell icon to get notified when a stock hits your target price.

Quick Start Plan (10 Minutes)
